As soon as started book#1 Lead Me Not, I was hooked! I instantly fell in love with Aubrey and Maxx! Seriously their instant attraction and the intensity of how they pull themselves into each other poured out of the pages and into my heart. Just wow! This series is super intense.
Aubrey Duncan has lost and she knows what it is like to have to start back from the bottom to get back to the top. She is always blaming herself for others actions but she learns that in order to get ahead herself, she needs to help others. When she meets Maxx, she becomes intrigued on wanting what Maxx Demelo offers which is a way out of her demons and into a world she has never seen before which she can't resist. Maxx also brings out Aubrey's sexual appetite. Maxx's obsession with instantly loving Aubrey and wanting her in every way makes him turn realize that maybe he wants to turn his life around...or maybe he wants Aubrey to be part of it.
This story will pull you into the hard world of drugs, lies, and secret double lives that don't always have a happy ending....
And then comes Book#2 "Follow Me Back", which picks up right where "Lead Me Not" left off. I am glad to have read both books back to back because I don't think I could have waited in between books to find out what happens next with Aubrey and Maxx. I did literally absorbed both books and they both had me emotionally drained in a good way after reading them.
Maxx is trying to get himself back together and get back the only person he has ever loved which is Aubrey. He goes thru rehab and learns that not every decision he makes is the right one. Aubrey Author Walter's does not make her characters perfect & I enjoy that. Maxx is not written as a guy who all of a sudden cleans up his act and is now normal. If that happened, it would have ruined the whole series. This is why now I am a fan of Walters, she writes with intensity, truth, and makes the characters believable! Bravo! Yes I cried, laughed, had moments of weakness for both characters.
All in all, I liked this series a lot. Made me think of my own family and friends that have dealt with some of these issues in this series. Beautifully written Series!
